Starting the New Year with Europe INNOVA
"Gazelles" as drivers for job creation and innovation: How to best support them?
On the 13 January, the main results from a Sectoral Innovation Watch (SIW) study on gazelles (high growth companies) will be presented to promote a debate about the possible policy implications. The workshop will be attended by 75 representatives of relevant organisations, who will discuss how more gazelles can be nurtured in Europe, especially as many of these successful small enterprises are subsequently swallowed up by large international companies.

The Regional KIS 100 Event
The fourth and last Europe INNOVA KIS 100 event is being organised in Paris, on 17 January 2011. Like its predecessors, it will bring together regional services innovation stakeholders. Innovation practitioners and policy-makers as well as SMEs and industrial experts will get the chance to discuss and network. Eight companies from Ile-de-France and the Castile and Léon regions will be invited to present their companies’ approaches to services innovation. The presentation that is the most original and demonstrates the most business potential will then be awarded a prize.

Workshop on Organisational Innovation and Value Chain
On 25 January, SIW will bring together about 50 participants to discuss the transformative effects of organisational and services innovations on industrial value and supply chains. Many of the examples discussed will be reconsidered by the Conference on Services Innovation that will take place in Rome, on 17 and 18 February.

New Ways to promote Services Innovation in Europe: the Role of the Structural Funds - KIS Partnering Forum
On 27 and 28 January, this event will discuss the novel and groundbreaking approaches to supporting services innovation, with a special focus on the possibilities of providing effective support through the Structural Funds. It will be hosted by the Warsaw Stock Exchange, in Poland, and will bring together around 150 participants.

Public conference on the future of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP)
On 25 January, the Commission’s services will organise a public conference in Brussels on a possible successor to the CIP, which comes to an end in 2013. The Commission is inviting interested stakeholders, including representatives of business and innovation agencies, to express their views on topics such as the improvement of CIP support measures, fields to be supported to help businesses to grow and links between EU support for research and EU support for competitiveness and innovation.
