1. The Sector in NRW
The cultural and creative sector is one of the most dynamic sectors of industry in Europe and is also a vital driver for economic developments and innovations in other sectors. North-Rhine Westphalia's cultural and creative sector is the most successful in Germany and makes a significant contribution to the country's competitive and innovative capacity. Currently, 157,000 people are employed in the cultural and creative sector in North-Rhine Westphalia by approximately 46,200 companies. The total turnover generated by the cultural sector in North-Rhine Westphalia amounts to over 32 billion euros.
2. Objectives and Tasks of the Cluster Management
The central objectives of the Cluster Management are to showcase the growth potential of the creative and cultural sector in North Rhine-Westphalia on a national and international scale, and also to provide a sustainable boost to the competitiveness of local self-employed traders and businesses within the cultural and creative sector.
The Cluster Management is responsible for the following six sub-sectors:
- Music sector
- Book market
- Art market
- Design sector
- Fashion design
- Advertising
The primary tasks of the Cluster Management are to:
- Develop matching offers to connect supply and demand
- Improve the international presence and export opportunities of companies
- Identify potential for cross-border collaboration
- Develop strategies to attract more creative people
- Set up forums designed to promote inter-disciplinary exchange
- Promote exchange between art and media colleges i.e. relevant university faculties and companies
- Assist in improving the educational programmes and advanced training courses offered by universities as well as in furthering the incorporation of knowledge from the economic sector into university course content
- Work alongside economic development bodies and municipalities to provide facilities and spaces devoted to creative endeavour
This project began on 1.7.2009.
3. Main Areas of Work and Projects of the Cluster
The initial set-up phase features the following:
- Developing and establishing the “Creative.NRW” brand
- Setting up a support network
- Concerted promotion of new talent at national and international events by finding and presenting young talented people in individual sectors
